The Art of Connection – A Story About Prenatal Belly Painting

There is something truly special about painting a belly that holds life. It’s more than art, it’s a moment of connection, celebration, and calm.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of painting many bellies in Ibiza, sometimes on a quiet beach at sunset, sometimes in a family’s garden surrounded by loved ones. Each one is unique, just like the baby inside.

One moment that always stays with me is when I painted the belly of my sister, while she was pregnant with my niece, Noa. She’s now a beautiful little girl, one and a half years old. That painting became even more special, as her father was still with us at the time. It was an intimate, emotional experience, full of love, family, and presence. A memory that will always stay in my heart.

That’s when I truly understood that prenatal belly painting is more than a beautiful photo opportunity; it’s a ritual. A pause in time. A way for the mother to bond, breathe, and be present.

I always use natural, skin-safe paints, and I adapt each design to the mother’s energy, wishes, and story. Some ask for their baby’s name, some for flowers, others for symbols of strength or dreams.

Often, family members or siblings join in — laughing, watching, or even helping me gently add a touch of color. It’s always joyful, magical, and deeply human.

Over the years, I’ve also learned how to make the experience even more unique. I collaborate with professional photographers because I believe a good photo doesn’t just capture a pose — it tells a story. These moments become part of the family’s history.

And to make the memory last even longer, at the end of the session, I offer something truly special: I transfer the belly painting onto a T-shirt, creating a wearable keepsake that stays with the family forever.

In a world where pregnancy sometimes feels rushed or medicalized, this is a moment to slow down, honour the body, and celebrate life through art.

El Arte de Conectar – Una Historia de Belly Painting Prenatal

Hay algo verdaderamente especial en pintar una barriga que lleva vida dentro. Es más que arte es un momento de conexión, de celebración y de calma.

A lo largo de los años, he tenido el privilegio de pintar muchas barriguitas en Ibiza, a veces en una playa tranquila al atardecer, otras en jardines familiares rodeados de seres queridos. Cada una es única, al igual que el bebé que crece dentro.

Un momento que siempre guardaré en mi corazón fue cuando pinté la barriga de mi propia hermana, embarazada de mi sobrina Noa. Hoy Noah es una niña hermosa de un año y medio. Aquella pintura se volvió aún más especial porque su padre todavía estaba con nosotros en ese momento. Fue una experiencia íntima, llena de amor, familia y presencia. Un recuerdo que me acompaña siempre.

Ahí comprendí de verdad que el belly painting prenatal no es solo una oportunidad para tomar una foto bonita, es un ritual. Una pausa en el tiempo. Una forma para que la futura mamá se conecte, respire y esté presente.

Siempre utilizo pinturas naturales y seguras para la piel, y adapto cada diseño a la energía, los deseos y la historia de la mamá. Algunas piden el nombre del bebé, otras flores, símbolos de fuerza o sueños personales.

Muchas veces, los familiares o hermanos participan, ríen, observan, o incluso me ayudan con un pequeño toque de color. Siempre es un momento mágico, alegre y profundamente humano.

Con el tiempo, también aprendí cómo hacer que esta experiencia sea aún más especial. Colaboro con fotógrafos profesionales, porque creo que una buena fotografía no solo capta una pose, cuenta una historia. Estas imágenes se convierten en parte de la historia familiar.

Y para que el recuerdo dure aún más, al finalizar la sesión ofrezco algo muy especial: transfiero la pintura de la barriga a una camiseta, creando un recuerdo único y duradero que la familia puede conservar para siempre.

En un mundo donde el embarazo a veces se vive con prisa o de forma muy médica, esto es una pausa para celebrar el cuerpo y honrar la vida, a través del arte.
